A group of attendees at the ApeFest event in Hong Kong have reported experiencing severe skin burns and eye pain after attending the blockchain company Yuga Labs’ Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT project. One attendee, @CryptoJune777, stated that they woke up unable to see and had to go to the hospital due to the pain. Yuga Labs has responded to the situation, stating that they are taking the reports seriously and actively reaching out to those affected to understand the cause. They estimate that less than 1 percent of the event’s attendees were affected.
Interestingly, a similar incident occurred in 2017 at a Hypebeast event at The Landmark commercial complex in Hong Kong, where attendees also reported sunburn and eye pain. It was later discovered that the venue had installed lighting primarily used for disinfection purposes. However, the two incidents seem to be unrelated as The Landmark venue was not part of the ApeFest event plan.
The situation has raised concerns about the safety measures and equipment used in events and highlights the importance of ensuring the well-being of attendees. Yuga Labs is likely to face scrutiny and pressure to investigate and address the root cause of the injuries to prevent further incidents in the future.
