During their year-end trip to visit a family member in Allied Gardens, San Diego, visitors made a horrifying discovery. They found a body enclosed in a chest freezer, upon arrival at the house. The body was identified as Mary Margaret Haxby-Jones, a former Kaiser Permanente employee, who would have turned 81 years old. She was found in a home in the 4900 block of Zion Avenue on December 22, 2023, and police were notified at around 11:45 a.m.
Police have urged anyone with information about the victim to contact the homicide unit at (619) 531-2293 or to anonymously provide tips to Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Detectives said that Haxby-Jones may have been dead or missing for nearly nine years and are treating the case as a suspicious death. The police have not disclosed the identity of the out-of-town family members who found the body, and the current residents of the home are being investigated, as police are seeking the public’s assistance in solving the case.
Neighbors shared information about a man in his 70s who currently lives in the home and provided insights into the living conditions of the property. Public records showed that the property was owned by Mary M. Jones, which presumably is the same person as Mary Margaret Haxby-Jones. The reports indicate that the freezer, where Haxby-Jones was found, was running when police initially investigated it, adding another layer of mystery to the investigation as key details remain undisclosed by law enforcement authorities.
