Sony has initiated testing a new PS5 beta update aimed at enhancing the quality of the DualSense controller’s speakers and microphone, while also introducing pointers and emoji reactions to the Share Screen feature. This update is being made available to select testers in the US, Canada, Japan, UK, Germany, and France. Additionally, the firmware for both the DualSense and DualSense Edge wireless controllers has been updated to improve the volume of in-game sounds and voice chat. The microphone capabilities of both controllers have also been enhanced to address background noise.

The latest PS5 beta update introduces the ability to allow friends using the Share Screen feature to interact with the gameplay via pointers and emoji reactions. This feature permits viewers to guide the host player more efficiently, highlight specific objects or areas, and send emoji reactions to the host. Moreover, Sony has improved the mic input quality on these controllers by integrating a new AI machine learning model that suppresses background noise from button presses and game audio, thus improving the overall voice chat experience.

Finally, the update also includes the ability to control the brightness of the PS5’s power indicator. Users now have the option to choose from three brightness levels: dim, medium, and bright (default). While there is no option to fully disable the power indicator, Sony typically releases beta updates for all PS5 owners within a few months, following the initial testing phase.
