Google made a significant announcement today that the AI-powered editing tools in Google Photos will be accessible to all users of the app without the need for a subscription. This new change will take effect on May 15th, following Google’s annual developer conference. The features included in this update, such as Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Light, will also be extended to more devices, including Pixel tablets. This move aims to make advanced editing tools more accessible to a wider audience.

Last year, Google introduced the Magic Editor on the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, offering users the ability to make complex edits using generative AI technology. Now, this feature will be available for all Pixel devices with unlimited usage. In addition, all Google Photos users on Android and iOS will receive 10 Magic Editor saves per month. Beyond this limit, users will need either a Pixel device or a Premium Google One plan with 2TB of storage or more. This expansion of AI-powered editing tools reflects Google’s commitment to enhancing the photo editing experience for users across different devices.

The company’s decision to make these features more widely available demonstrates its focus on improving user experience and accessibility for advanced editing tools. By expanding the availability of AI-powered editing tools to all Google Photos users, Google is ensuring that more individuals can take advantage of these innovative features. The upcoming changes, set to roll out after Google’s developer conference, mark a significant step towards democratizing advanced editing capabilities for a broader audience of mobile users.
