Sony is gearing up to release a new, high-end version of the PS5, codenamed Trinity, which is expected to hit the market as the PS5 Pro later this year. Leaked specs for the PS5 Pro have been confirmed by The Verge, unveiling details on how both existing and new PS5 games can be optimized to maximize the new hardware. In addition to this, Sony is also working on an ultra-boost mode for older games, ensuring they run more smoothly on the PS5 Pro.

Sources familiar with Sony’s plans have revealed that developers are being asked to create a new PS5 Pro-exclusive graphics mode in games. This mode is set to offer 4K resolution with a 60fps frame rate and ray-tracing effects, combining Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution technology. The PS5 Pro “Enhanced” label will still be available for games with various scenarios, including 30fps games, offering developers flexibility in optimizing game performance for different platforms.

Developers will need to update their games to Sony’s latest SDK to fully leverage the features of the PS5 Pro. The ultra-boost mode on the upcoming console will help improve VRR modes, render games at higher resolutions, and enhance overall stability in frame rates. While unpatched games may not show improvements in this mode, developers can still utilize PSSR technology to upscale titles and access additional system memory provided by Sony for game development.
