Police are investigating whether hazing may have been a factor in the tragic death of Dartmouth College student Won Jang, whose body was discovered in a river. Jang was last seen by the Connecticut River docks Saturday night and reported missing the following afternoon before his body was found approximately 65 feet offshore the next day. The 20-year-old was described as an active member of the Dartmouth community and a dedicated biomedical engineering major.

Two of Jang’s friends revealed that he attended an event involving alcohol with his fraternity and a sorority the night he went missing. Police Chief Charles Dennis mentioned that there were signs of alcohol consumption at the event and that they had received an anonymous email suggesting possible hazing. Investigators are actively looking into these claims, along with other aspects of the case. Although the exact cause of Jang’s death has not been determined, police have ruled out foul play following their initial inquiries.

Following the incident, the college has suspended the fraternity and sorority involved in the joint event. Jang’s girlfriend, Lydia Jin, expressed profound grief over the loss of a kind-hearted individual with big dreams, emphasizing that the focus should be on the tragedy itself rather than the circumstances surrounding it. As the investigation unfolds, loved ones and the Dartmouth community continue to mourn the untimely passing of Won Jang, a promising student with aspirations to make a positive impact on the world.
