Nintendo has announced that it will be discontinuing online play and other online communication features for both the 3DS and Wii U consoles in early April 2024. This includes online co-operative play, internet rankings, and data distribution. While there is no exact date yet, Nintendo will announce the specific end date and time later on. However, the company also mentioned that services could potentially be discontinued earlier than planned if unforeseen circumstances arise.
Despite the end of online functionality, users will still be able to download update data and redownload purchased software and DLC from the eShop. Additionally, the Pokémon Bank for the 3DS will continue to be available even after the other online services end, although this could change in the future. It is also worth noting that while 3DS StreetPass will still be available, SpotPass support will be ending.
Earlier this year, Nintendo closed the 3DS and Wii U eShops, making purchases no longer possible. However, users can still access and redownload their previously purchased games and DLC. Nintendo continues to provide updates and support for its consoles, and further information will be shared as it becomes available.
