The latest firmware update for the Nintendo Switch, version 17.0.0, has been released. However, unlike previous updates, this one does not bring any new functionality to the system. Instead, Nintendo has focused on making small tweaks behind the scenes and promises further improvements to system stability. The patch notes for this update simply state that it includes general system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.
While new number changes often suggest the addition of new features, that is not the case here. This is not the first time that a Switch update has lacked substantial additions. Even the previous update, version 16.0.0, only introduced the replacement of unsuitable nicknames with “???” in profile settings. The last significant addition to the Switch’s functionality was the introduction of “Groups” on the home menu in March 2022.
Switch owners can expect the update to be downloaded automatically in the near future, with a prompt to install it. However, it can also be accessed immediately by going to the system settings, selecting the “System” tab, and choosing the “System Update” option.
