Bloomington-based company, Yelloh, formerly known as Schwan’s Home Delivery, announced that it will be closing 90 delivery centers, resulting in the loss of around 750 jobs on December 8. The company cited “economic headwinds, rising business costs, and the post-pandemic world” as reasons for the closures. Yelloh plans to concentrate its high-touch delivery service in 18 states, including Minnesota, which is considered the foundation of the 70-year-old company. The decision was described as heartbreaking by the company, as they value their customers, employees, and their role in local communities.
The closures are expected to have an impact on various positions within the company, ranging from salespeople to the corporate team. Despite this, Yelloh stated that they are committed to taking care of their team members by providing them with a 60-day notice and pay in accordance with the WARN Act. The company also emphasized its dedication to serving its customers well during this challenging period. Yelloh trucks will continue deliveries in 18 states, including Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Texas, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Originally established as Schwan’s Home Delivery in 1952, the company’s ownership changed in 2018 when the Schwan family sold a 70% share to Korean firm CJ CheilJedang for $1.8 billion. However, the family retained ownership of the Schwan’s Home Delivery business and rebranded it last year as Yelloh.
