The Snowboard Shop in the UK has stopped selling Onewheel electric skateboards following a recall in the US due to safety concerns. The store cited the potential for serious injury or death as the reason for pulling the product from its shelves. The Snowboard Shop intends to notify customers who have already purchased Onewheels and has reached out to the manufacturer for more information. While the store has removed the “buy” button from its website, it is keeping the products listed in order to provide a link to the product recall notice.

This action comes after the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued a warning last year urging people to stop using Onewheels. Future Motion, the company that manufactures the electric skateboards, disagreed with the CPSC’s claims and stated that the devices were safe if used following basic safety guidelines. It is unclear whether the recall in the US extends to customers who bought Onewheels through UK resellers. The CPSC reported receiving numerous reports of incidents involving the electric skateboards, including four deaths and various injuries.

Future Motion has responded to the recall by offering a new safety feature called “haptic buzz” that can be installed on certain Onewheel models via a firmware update. This feature alerts riders of potential crash situations and is designed to work in conjunction with the existing pushback safety feature. Customers with specific Onewheel models are eligible for the haptic buzz upgrade, while those with older models are entitled to a $100 credit towards a new device. To initiate a recall request, customers must visit Future Motion’s website.
