Stellantis has revealed details about a new electric-propelled Ram truck called the Ramcharger, which features a large EV battery pack linked to a gasoline engine to extend the vehicle’s range for long trips without requiring frequent charging stops. The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger claims to go up to 690 miles on a full tank and charge. The Ramcharger runs on dual electric motors, effectively making it an EV but operationally similar to a plug-in hybrid, such as the discontinued Chevy Volt.
The truck can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds and has a usable battery capacity of 70.8kWh. Despite the use of a hybrid setup, both the Ramcharger and the full-electric Ram 1500 REV are rated with similar towing and payload capability, with the Ramcharger being able to tow up to 14,000 pounds and carry a payload of up to 2,625 pounds. However, the use of a gas engine on the Ramcharger allows the it to travel longer distances while operating on fossil fuels.
The Ramcharger has an impressive interior and boasts advanced technology, but the weight of the battery, gas engine, and fuel tank likely indicate a considerable curb weight. Nevertheless, this electrified truck offers the potential of using it for a variety of driving needs, only needing to stop at gas stations for longer trips.
