Tesla has slashed the price of its Full Self Driving (Supervised) subscription by 50%, now costing $99 per month instead of the previous $199. This move follows a period of declining EV shipments for Tesla, with the company experiencing an eight percent drop in deliveries compared to the previous year. Despite the reduction in subscription fees, Tesla raised prices on all Model Y vehicles by $1,000 on April 1, signaling a broader strategy to make its electric vehicles and stock more appealing.

To entice customers and bolster its sales, Tesla offered a free trial of its Full Self Driving (Supervised) software to drivers at the end of 2023. The company is now requiring salespeople in North America to demonstrate this feature to potential buyers, underscoring the increasing importance of self-driving technology in Tesla’s strategy. Furthermore, Tesla is gearing up to release a “next-generation low-cost” electric vehicle in 2025, while details on the shipment numbers of the Cybertruck remain undisclosed. As Tesla navigates a challenging financial period, these strategic moves are aimed at revitalizing its position in the competitive EV market.

With the introduction of a more affordable subscription plan for its self-driving software, Tesla aims to attract new customers amidst a turbulent financial quarter. By reducing subscription costs and demonstrating the capabilities of its Full Self Driving (Supervised) feature in showrooms, Tesla is working to counteract declines in EV deliveries and maintain its competitive edge. As the company continues to innovate and expand its product lineup, including plans for a new low-cost EV in 2025, Tesla remains committed to advancing the future of electric vehicles and autonomous driving technology.
