About 4,000 workers represented by the United Auto Workers (UAW) have reached a temporary agreement with Mack Trucks, which is owned by Volvo Group. The agreement, which still needs to be ratified by the UAW, includes increased wages and continued benefits for the workers. This comes as the UAW is currently in the third week of an ongoing strike against General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis, the parent company of Chrysler. A potential strike by Mack workers could have strained the UAW’s strike fund. Workers across various industries in the US have been demanding better wages and benefits due to high inflation and low unemployment.

Mack Trucks, founded in 1900, is a major manufacturer of medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks, engines, and transmissions. The company operates in nearly 30 countries and its trucks are sold globally. While Mack had announced tentative agreements with its bargaining teams, ongoing discussions were still taking place. The United Auto Workers’ strike movement has gained broad national support, as recent polls show that a majority of Americans agree with workers’ demands for better compensation, both in the auto industry and other sectors. Volvo acquired Mack in 2000, and the resolution of this strike will have significant implications for both the company and its workers.
