Audi has recalled over 44,000 vehicles due to a software malfunction that causes the instrument panel display to cease functioning, resulting in the failure of the warning lights and speedometer. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall, affecting 44,387 vehicles.

Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. initiated the recall for specific 2021 models, including SQ8, A6 Sedan, A7, A8, Q7, Q8, RS6 Avant, RS7, RSQ8, S6 Sedan, S7, S8, A6 Allroad, and SQ7, due to the identified software issue. Documentation related to the recall indicates that the vehicles’ virtual cockpit instrument clusters might shut down after detecting an internal fault. As a result, critical information such as engine speed, vehicle speed, and gear/mode indicators may not be displayed. Additional data such as time, date, and mileage are also affected. The absence of display warnings, tell-tales, and gauges could increase the likelihood of a crash.

Owners of the affected 2021 Audi models are urged to visit the NHTSA website to check if their vehicles are included in the recall by searching the vehicle identification number. The remedy involves dealers updating the instrument panel software at no charge to Audi owners. Notifications will be sent to the owners of affected vehicles by May 30, 2025. The manufacturer did not provide a comment to FOX Business regarding the recall.

Previously, Volkswagen recalled over 261,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada due to a problem with a suction jet pump inside the fuel tanks, which could lead to a leak and create a potential fire hazard. This recall impacted several models produced between 2015 and 2020.
