Audrey Hepburn’s former residence in Switzerland has been listed for sale. The villa, known as “La Paisible” or “the peaceful” in French, spans an impressive 40 acres near Lake Geneva in the Tolochenaz, Vaud region. Currently listed by Knight Frank, a British real estate firm, the property is on the market for $21 million. The expansive house features 12 bedrooms, eight bathrooms, and a two-bedroom service apartment within its nearly 11,000 square feet.
Originally constructed in the 18th century, the villa was acquired by Hepburn in 1963, where she resided for 30 years until her passing from cancer at the age of 63. Following her death, her sons, Sean Hepburn Ferrer and Luca Dotti, sold the property in 2001 to Katharina and Jean-Marc Beaujolin, with Jean-Marc serving as the current chairman of ECH Ltd.
The Beaujolins have made several updates to the property, including relocating and modernizing the kitchen, updating the bathrooms, modernizing electrical systems, and adding guest rooms. Despite these changes, Hepburn’s legacy remains prominent in the home, highlighted by a commemorative plaque that attracts visitors. Katharina Beaujolin noted that public interest in Hepburn continues to be “quite touching,” emphasizing her enduring impact on many people even decades after her death.
Significant features from Hepburn’s time remain, such as the 60 white rosebushes planted when she turned 60, half of which still grace the garden. The estate is surrounded by centuries-old trees and includes five different entrances. Inside the villa are numerous rooms, including a spacious living room with a fireplace, built-in bookshelves, and large windows offering views of the surrounding landscape.
Additional interior highlights include a library characterized by built-in shelves, pink and blue sofas, and a modern kitchen with a large central island. The upper levels are accessible via two staircases and an elevator and house several guest bedrooms and the primary suite, each featuring distinct styles.
Other house amenities include a second living room with parquet flooring and a loft space boasting brick flooring and wood paneling, which has been used for large gatherings. Outside, the estate provides multiple seating areas, an outdoor dining space, and a heated 50-foot pool. The surrounding grounds also offer extensive parking facilities.
Katharina Beaujolin expressed the villa’s suitability as a venue for hosting friends during summer, and noted that two of her sons have celebrated their weddings on the estate’s grounds.
