U.S. Representative Henry Cuellar, a Democrat from Texas, was carjacked by three armed individuals on Monday night, according to his office. Fortunately, Cuellar was unharmed in the incident, and his vehicle has been recovered by the police. The robbery took place at New Jersey Avenue and K Street SE in Washington’s Navy Yard area, which is about a mile away from the U.S. Capitol. This marks the second assault on a member of Congress in the District of Columbia this year, following an incident involving Democratic Representative Angie Craig of Minnesota in February.

The carjacking of Rep. Cuellar occurred as he was parking his car, with three armed assailants approaching him and stealing his vehicle. Thankfully, he escaped physical harm and is cooperating with local law enforcement regarding the incident. The stolen vehicle has since been recovered by the police, providing a positive outcome in the resolution of the case. The robbery took place in the Navy Yard area of Washington, D.C., adding to concerns about safety in the city. This incident follows a similar incident earlier this year involving Rep. Angie Craig, where she was assaulted but managed to avoid serious injury.

The carjacking of Rep. Cuellar brings attention to the security risks faced by members of Congress in the District of Columbia. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for increased measures to ensure the safety of elected officials. Earlier this year, Rep. Craig also experienced an assault in her Washington apartment building, raising concerns about the security of lawmakers. It is important for law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate these incidents and take appropriate action to prevent future attacks on members of Congress.
