A snowstorm is sweeping across the country, hitting the Midwest and the southern and central Plains. The National Weather Service is warning of “ferocious blizzard conditions” as up to 2 inches of snow per hour is expected to accumulate, with winds gusting up to 60-70 mph. The storm has already left 13,000 homes in Massachusetts without power and is expected to affect the interior Northeast and other parts of the East Coast.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has announced the state’s preparedness for the severe weather, while New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is urging New Yorkers to be vigilant and cautious. The storm is not just limited to the East Coast, as powerful winter storm systems are expected to pass over the Pacific Northwest, bringing several feet of snow and blizzard conditions. The snow and hazardous conditions will make travel extremely dangerous to impossible, prompting a plea from the National Weather Service for drivers to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

In addition to New England and the East Coast, the storm is expected to impact the Midwest and the interior Northeast over the next few days. The severity of the storm is demonstrated by the strong winds, possible tornadoes, and the risk of flash flooding, making the weather hazardous for millions across the country. The unpredictable, severe weather has prompted state and local authorities to take precautions and urge residents to stay safe and prepared.
