The U.S. Coast Guard has called off the search for a missing person after a possible shark attack off Wildcat Beach in Point Reyes National Seashore. The Coast Guard received reports from witnesses who saw a person being pulled under by a shark. Despite extensive search efforts, the missing person has not been found and no fatality has been confirmed. The incident has highlighted the presence of white sharks in the area, with 16 shark-related incidents reported in Marin County since 1950.

The search for the missing person continues in the remote and difficult-to-access area of Point Reyes National Seashore. The Coast Guard deployed vessels, along with Marin County Fire and Stinson Beach Fire Protection District, to search the water. On land, Marin police officers and National Park Service officials are involved in the search. The presence of white sharks in the area during migration season raises concerns about future incidents. So far, there have been no fatal shark attacks in Marin County, but authorities urge people to remain respectful of the missing person’s family and friends.

Point Reyes National Seashore, where the incident occurred, is known for its remote location and challenging access. The missing person’s identity has not been released, and it is unclear what kind of shark was involved in the attack. According to experts, white sharks are the most likely species to bite a person in this region. The incident serves as a reminder of the presence of sharks in the water along the Marin County coastline. Authorities and responders express their concern for the missing person’s family and friends during this challenging time.
