A subway collision caused two trains to derail Thursday afternoon in Manhattan. The accident happened at around 3 p.m. near 96th Street and Broadway on the Upper West Side. One of the trains had 300 passengers on board at the time of the crash. 24 people suffered non-life threatening injuries. Additionally, a good Samaritan alerted transit K-9 officers assigned to the station when the collision first occurred. They rendered aid and helped evacuate people onto the platform to safety. MTA Transit President Richard Davey informed that the out-of-service train that was involved in the collision had been vandalized, causing some of the emergency cords to be pulled, resulting in the train getting stuck.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were sustained, and emergency responders worked to switch off the train’s power and evacuate all passengers. However, full subway service may not be restored until Friday as transit officials mentioned that it will take some time before operations are fully up and running. Passengers affected by the ordeal were forced to seek alternative transportation options, and many shared their frustrations and inconveniences caused by the disruptions. The aftermath of the incident has left many commuters planning ahead, opting to find different modes of transport or altering their routines to avoid potential disruptions in the coming days.
