Torrential rains led to major flooding in the Pittsburgh area on Thursday night and into Friday morning, causing significant damage to various locations. Lone Pine Country Club in Green Hills Borough, Washington County, experienced heavy flooding, inundating lower-lying areas of the golf course. Additionally, emergency shelters were opened in Armstrong County and residents were urged to evacuate flood-prone areas. The record rainfall on April 11 resulted in the fourth wettest April on record for the Pittsburgh area.

In Canton Township, Kojak’s Auto Body Shop was severely flooded, with several feet of water inside the business. Water rescue crews were also called to Oakdale, where multiple people needed to be rescued from floodwaters. Moreover, the activation of floodgates at Washington Boulevard in Pittsburgh and water rescues on Route 51 highlighted the widespread impact of the flooding. Schools in the area made adjustments, such as switching to remote instruction, due to the flooding and rainfall, while flash flood warnings were issued for southwestern Pennsylvania.

As the region continued to experience heavy rainfall and flooding, the National Weather Service warned against walking or driving through flooded roadways. The potential hazards of moving water were emphasized, including hidden dangers like sharp objects and washed-out road surfaces. With more rain expected in the area, caution was advised to prevent further incidents and ensure public safety.
