Three dead, three missing in Wrangell, Alaska landslide.

A landslide that struck homes in Wrangell, Alaska this week has led to the deaths of three individuals, including a girl, with three others still missing. The landslide occurred at about 9 p.m. on Monday local time, and covered Zimovia Highway, effectively closing it at the 11th milepost. At 450 feet wide, the slide smashed into three single-family homes and remained active through Monday evening, leading to road closures for the local community of 2,000 residents.

As rescue crews search for the missing individuals, age ranges have not been reported, but rescuers are also dealing with unstable slope conditions and have urged people to stay away from the slide area to avoid the risk of further landslides. Despite the devastation, the community remains united and resilient, according to Mason Villarama, interim borough manager for Wrangell. As officials work to manage the situation, the Weather Service has predicted more rain for southeastern Alaska threats.
