In a recent interview with NBC News, former President Donald Trump stated that he was not joking about potentially attempting to serve a third term and mentioned there are “methods” to achieve it, though he did not provide further details. The U.S. Constitution currently restricts presidents to two terms.

A movement among Trump’s supporters advocating for a third term is gaining traction, as reported by NPR’s Tamara Keith. A Republican congressman even proposed a constitutional amendment three days into Trump’s second term to allow for a third term. According to Keith, there is a political motivation behind Trump’s suggestion—extending his influence as a looming end to his presidency would prompt party members to seek his replacement, rendering him a lame duck.

Additionally, Trump has enacted an executive order targeting the Smithsonian Institution to restore what he terms as the “truth and sanity to American history.” The order calls for the reinstatement of removed or altered monuments, memorials, and statues since January 2020. In response, Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch reassured staff that their work will be guided by scholarly integrity and remain nonpartisan to enhance public understanding of U.S. history.

The number is expected to increase as rescue efforts face challenges due to infrastructure damages. Despite foreign aid from countries like China, India, and Russia, logistical issues, including an airport closure, are hampering efforts. It was reported that the United States will also participate in aid efforts.

In another development, 18 Rosie the Riveters have been recognized with Congressional Gold Medals at the National WWII Museum, marking their pioneering contributions during the war. In an unrelated incident, the annual White House Correspondents’ dinner canceled comedian Amber Ruffin’s appearance, breaking with tradition by not featuring a comedian this year. Also, a Kansas babysitter, while checking for monsters under a child’s bed, discovered a male suspect hiding there.
