The Biden administration has responded to Hamas’ recent attacks on Israel with a significant show of American military force in the Middle East, deploying two aircraft carrier strike groups, additional aircraft and air defenses, and hundreds of troops in an effort to prevent further escalation. Despite these measures, Iranian proxies have targeted American forces at least 60 times in Iraq and Syria, leading to injuries among U.S. personnel. Pentagon spokesperson Sabrina Singh defended the administration’s response, stating that the attacks have been mostly unsuccessful and that retaliatory airstrikes have significantly impacted the militia groups’ access to weapons.

Former national security adviser Robert O’Brien criticized the Biden administration’s handling of the situation, attributing the Oct. 7 attacks on Israel and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to U.S. failures to deter Iran and Hamas. O’Brien also voiced concerns about Biden’s Iran policy and urged the administration to be more supportive of Israel and Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of remaining resolute in the face of criticism by the Democratic party’s progressive wing and providing Ukraine with the necessary weapons systems to succeed in their conflict.

O’Brien’s comments highlight the ongoing challenges and criticisms surrounding the Biden administration’s foreign policy decisions, particularly in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. As tensions continue to rise in these regions, the administration faces pressure to address concerns and effectively navigate conflicting interests while balancing diplomatic and military responses.
