According to a report from Bloomberg, the major AI upgrade for the company’s flagship voice assistant, which was initially expected this year, has been postponed to 2025. The objective of the upgrade is to enhance Alexa’s capabilities by making it more conversational and versatile. However, progress on these developments seems to be stalled.
The Bloomberg report details various issues encountered during testing of the AI-enhanced Alexa. Feedback from beta users indicates that the AI sometimes provides lengthy, irrelevant responses. Other reported issues involve hallucinations and inconsistencies in integrating with connected smart devices such as light switches.
As of now, Amazon has not officially acknowledged any delay in the release schedule. However, it appears that beta access has been discontinued, preventing further testing of the new conversational features. It remains uncertain when these upgrades will be available to the public, with a possible release in 2025.
