Google has recently launched the first beta of Android 15, introducing a new feature that allows users to set a default wallet app on their devices. This option joins the existing ability to set default apps for various categories, such as assistants and notes apps. With this update, users can now designate a specific app to serve as their primary wallet app, particularly for NFC payments. At the moment, Google Wallet and the AMEX app are among the few apps compatible with this setting.

Unlike Apple, which has faced criticism for limiting the use of third-party digital wallets on iOS, Android has historically been more open to allowing different apps to serve as wallet options. This new setting in Android 15 is expected to streamline the process of using alternative wallet apps, paving the way for more diverse options in the future. As Google continues to expand the functionality of default apps, users can look forward to a more customizable and user-friendly experience when it comes to managing their digital transactions.
