Apple explains that there are several circumstances causing the devices to heat up, including recently updated third-party apps such as Instagram, Uber, and Asphalt 9. Apple is working with these app developers on fixes that are in the process of being rolled out. Additionally, Apple has discovered a bug in iOS 17 that is impacting some users and plans to release a software update to address the issue.
The company also advises that users may notice their device feeling warmer during the first few days after setup or restoration due to increased background activity. Apple’s support page provides further information on activities that can cause increased heat, such as restoring from a backup, using graphic-intensive apps, streaming high-quality video, and wireless charging. The company emphasizes that these conditions are normal, and the device will return to a regular temperature once the process is complete or when the activity is finished.
Despite these reported issues, demand for the iPhone 15 remains strong. Analysts have observed pre-order numbers surpassing expectations, particularly for the premium iPhone 15 Pro models. Delivery and shipment times for various Pro models are already stretching into late October through mid-November. This positive reception may help offset Apple’s recent decline in sales, with revenues falling approximately 2% year-over-year in the third quarter. However, advancements in the iPhone 15’s processor, camera, and charging system, along with carrier discounts, are expected to entice users who have not upgraded their devices in over four years. Despite the reported overheating issues, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max start at $1,099 and $1,199, respectively, while the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are priced at $799 and $899, respectively.
