Apple’s significant September iPhone event has concluded, revealing details about the new iPhone 16, a new line of AirPods, and the Apple Watch 10. However, there has been no announcement concerning the M4 Mac or MacBook.
Indications suggest that this may change soon.
Apple seems to have inadvertently leaked information about a new Mac Mini. This revelation hints at expectations for the latest desktop Mac, appearing to confirm speculation about a significant redesign.
The introduction of the new Mac Mini M4 looks imminent. The recent launch of the latest Mac operating system, macOS Sequoia, on Monday appears to have provided a discreet confirmation from Apple about the upcoming Mac Mini M4.
Aaron Perris, a contributor to MacRumors, identified a notable detail in a newly released line of code from Apple, referring to an “Apple silicon Mac mini (5 Port).”
This evidence aligns with an earlier report from Bloomberg’s Apple insider Mark Gurman. According to Gurman, Apple plans to introduce a new Mac Mini that not only features the powerful M4 chipset but also a complete redesign. The new Mac Mini M4 is purported to be as small as the Apple TV set-top box. This would represent the first design change for the Mac Mini since 2010.
Reports indicate that Apple plans to remove USB-A ports from the compact desktop to achieve a smaller size, opting instead to include five USB-C ports, which likely explains the “5 Port” reference in the code.
This line of code is the closest indication so far that a new Mac Mini is forthcoming. With rumors of a final Apple event of the year scheduled for either October or November, it seems highly probable that the new Mac Mini will feature among the upcoming M4 Macs expected in 2024.
