Apple has announced the release of a new entry-level version of its 14-inch MacBook Pro, which replaces the previous 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar keyboard. One of the major highlights of the new model is the M3 chip, a 3nm chip that promises significant performance improvements compared to the previous M1 MacBook Pro. Apple claims that Final Cut Pro rendering on the new model can be up to 60% faster. However, specific details about the performance jump compared to the old M1 model or the upcoming M2 chip have not been disclosed.
Although the new base-level MacBook Pro retains the same external design as other 14-inch models, it features a 14-inch screen with a notch, a notable departure from previous MacBook designs without a notch. However, with the new specs and enhancements, the starting price for this M3 MacBook Pro has increased to $1,599, a $300 increase compared to its predecessor. Furthermore, the base configuration comes with just 8GB of RAM, which is relatively low considering its premium price. The space black color option is also reserved for higher-end models with the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips, which start at $1,999.
The Touch Bar, which was introduced to MacBook Pros in 2016, has finally been phased out by Apple. Although it had its supporters, the Touch Bar did not gain enough popularity for Apple to continue utilizing it in the long run. It was removed from the redesigned 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros launched in 2021. Apple continued to refresh the 13-inch Touch Bar model with the M1 and M2 chips until this recent announcement. The new MacBook Pro is set to be available for pre-order on Monday and will be released on November 7th.
