According to a recent report from The Information, Apple incurs losses exceeding $1 billion annually from its streaming platform, Apple TV+. The report highlights that Apple TV+ is the only service in Apple’s portfolio that is currently unprofitable.
Since its launch in 2019, the company has invested approximately $5 billion each year in content for the streaming service, although this figure is expected to decrease to $4.5 billion in 2024. Apple TV+ is recognized for its original programming, including titles such as “Severance,” “Ted Lasso,” “The Morning Show,” “Silo,” and “Shrinking.”
While productions from Apple TV+ have garnered over 2,500 award nominations and wins, the service still trails behind competitors like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video in terms of subscriber numbers.
Apple does not publicly disclose subscriber counts for its streaming service, but the report estimates that Apple TV+ has about 45 million subscribers. In comparison, Netflix dominates the streaming industry with a subscriber base of 301 million.
