Barbie’s success at the box office continues as it prepares for its digital release and now, a one-week run in IMAX theaters starting on September 22 in North America. The film received overwhelming support from Barbie fans worldwide, and the filmmakers wanted to show their appreciation by adding special new footage exclusively for the IMAX release. Although it is unclear how much new footage will be included, this addition, along with the opportunity to see the film on a bigger screen, is expected to boost its already impressive domestic earnings of nearly $575 million.

Greta Gerwig, the co-writer and director of Barbie, expressed her gratitude for the enthusiasm and support from fans. IMAX CEO Richard Gelfond also praised the film’s critical and commercial success, stating that it’s exciting to see an original film like Barbie achieve such milestones. The partnership between the filmmakers, Warner Bros., and IMAX aims to deliver a unique experience to audiences around the world with the special edition of Barbie.

This announcement is likely to entice fans to revisit the film and catch it on the IMAX screen. As the highest-grossing film of the year so far, Barbie’s IMAX release is expected to attract even more viewers and further contribute to its box office success.
