The days of the “@[insert username] blocked you” page appear to be over. X’s owner, Elon Musk, announced a new modification to the platform’s blocking feature, enabling blocked users to see posts from the accounts that have blocked them.
Although blocked accounts will still be unable to interact with those who have blocked them, they will be able to view their posts. A source from X informed The Verge that this new blocked access feature is being implemented because users can already see and interact with accounts that have blocked them by switching to a non-blocked account.
Musk has been inclined to disable the block feature on X for some time. Over a year ago, he first noted his disapproval of blocking on X (formerly Twitter), except for direct messages. He mentioned that blocking would be “deleted as a ‘feature,’” stating, “It makes no sense.”
In May, X’s Engineering account announced the upcoming implementation of the blocked viewer change to the platform, though no specific rollout date was provided. The announcement indicated that the change aims to enable users with blocked accounts to “identify and report any potential bad content that was previously not viewable.”
