Owners of BMW vehicles with wireless charging pads are reporting issues with their iPhone 15’s NFC chip. The problem arises after users charge their iPhones with the vehicle’s wireless charging pad, causing the NFC chip to malfunction. This chip powers features like Apple Pay and digital car keys. Affected users have received error messages in the Wallet app and have not found a permanent solution. It is unclear how many customers and which BMW models are affected. Apple has yet to comment on the issue.

In response to complaints, BMW vehicle owners are advised to exercise caution when charging their iPhone 15 models with the vehicle’s wireless charging pad. Reports indicate that the NFC chip within the iPhone goes into data recovery mode with a white screen after which it becomes non-functional. Apple’s replacement iPhones are also vulnerable to the same issue, leaving customers without a permanent solution.
