In 2026, the experience of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run will undergo a significant transformation as The Mandalorian & Grogu takes center stage. This new overlay will replace the current Solo: A Star Wars Story theme and transport visitors to various iconic locations, including Tatooine, Cloud City, and the remnants of the second Death Star. During Star Wars Celebration Japan, it was announced that the ride will also feature the city-planet of Coruscant. Additionally, the ride will offer multiple paths, allowing the Engineer on board to choose the route.
The revamp of the ride is set to debut in May 2026, coinciding with the release of the movie. The storyline has been revealed: Hondo Ohnaka informs guests that he has made an arrangement with the New Republic to retrieve old Imperial remnants and has enlisted a Mandalorian for security. However, it soon becomes apparent that Hondo is not entirely truthful, as the New Republic takes issue with the Millennium Falcon and the Razor Crest navigating these locations and acquiring items.
On Smugglers Run, participants can assume the roles of pilots, gunners, or engineers. Currently, the engineer role is considered less exciting, but with the upcoming changes, engineers will have the crucial role of selecting the destination and interacting with Grogu via a small screen.
New concept art has revealed that on Tatooine, participants will encounter a Sandcrawler, fly through Beggars Canyon, and navigate the remains of a Krayt Dragon. On Cloud City, there will be new areas to explore, including a loading dock where another Disney attraction, Star Tours, visits. The Death Star segment will feature a trench run and various debris to avoid. On Coruscant, visitors will be able to delve into its levels, and a video shown at the event depicted the Falcon in a showdown with an Imperial Cruiser.
Development of the ride continues, primarily during the evenings when the park is closed, ensuring further details will emerge as the new opening approaches at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World in 2026.
