Other Instax Cameras and Printers
Fujifilm continues to update its Instax range, incorporating features such as parallax correction and faster USB-C charging, now common across most Instax cameras. Despite these updates, the company still offers older models. Generally, it is advisable to opt for the latest versions, though some older models may be available at significant discounts. Below are a few models worth considering.
Instax Pal for $80: Introduced by Fujifilm last year, the Pal is a compact digital camera available in a bundle with the Instax Mini Link 2 smartphone printer and a 10-pack of Instax Mini film. The need for the Pal remains unclear, as similar features are available in the Mini Evo. However, the Evo may not be as durable for children’s use. Testing of this model is forthcoming.
Instax SQ 6 for $150-$200: The SQ 6, though no longer listed on Fujifilm’s Instax website, remains a notable option for those who appreciate the square format. It offers manual features, including Lighten and Darken modes resembling exposure compensation, which are not present in the newer SQ 1 or SQ 40 models. Additional features include a selfie timer, close-up mode, and the capability to disable the flash. If found for around $100-$150, the SQ 6 is a strong choice for Square film enthusiasts.
Instax Mini 11 for $80-$120: The Mini 11 generally offers poor value, being slightly less expensive than the newer Mini 12, which offers superior features. It is only worth considering if priced below $50.
Instax Mini Link Printer for $145: The original Instax Mini Link, now replaced by the Mini Link 2, features only minor updates that do not affect print quality. If the original Mini Link is available for a lower price than the Link 2, it remains a solid choice, with the Link 2 generally priced around $100.
Instax 7s/8/9: These older, entry-level models use a fixed 1/60 shutter speed, whereas the similarly-priced Mini 12 features auto exposure with shutter speeds ranging from 1/2 to 1/250 seconds, offering greater flexibility. Due to their limited availability, these models are not recommended.
