DC Studios is reportedly considering Colin Farrell for the role of Sgt. Rock in a film set in Gotham City. Farrell, who is receiving praise for his portrayal of another DC character in “The Penguin,” is in discussions for the role in the project to be directed by Luca Guadagnino of “Challengers” fame.
Deadline first reported the potential casting, emphasizing that Farrell’s involvement as both Sgt. Rock and the Penguin is not a conflict. These characters belong to separate DC worlds: Sgt. Rock is part of the DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran, while the Penguin is part of Matt Reeves’ Epic Crime Saga. This separation suggests that these worlds will remain distinct, dismissing speculation about Robert Pattinson’s Batman joining the DC Universe.
Gunn and Safran were reportedly pleased with the unexpected development of the Sgt. Rock project. Earlier this year, Guadagnino and “Challengers” writer Justin Kuritzkes presented a unique vision for the story, gaining Gunn and Safran’s support. Safran mentioned that the film offers a compelling narrative about heroism during wartime, maintaining the spirit of a war movie.
Initially, rumors suggested Daniel Craig for the role, but Gunn and Safran clarified that he was never officially considered. Farrell’s involvement appears more probable, contingent on his availability. DC Studios has been contacted for further comment, and updates will follow as more information becomes available.
