Ukraine’s state-owned railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, announced on Monday that it was targeted by a large-scale cyberattack.
The cyberattack disrupted online ticket sales, including those made through the mobile app; however, train services remain operational, as stated in the railway operator’s official Telegram channel.
Daryna Antoniuk, a journalist located in Ukraine, reported on the disruption for The Record from Kyiv’s central station. She noted that the capital’s main railway station was unusually crowded on Monday morning, with many individuals waiting in extensive lines to purchase tickets for travel both within Ukraine and to other countries.
In its statement, Ukrzaliznytsia conveyed that “the enemy failed to do the key thing: train traffic is stable, they run clearly, without delays, and all operational processes of traffic are set up in a backup format,” according to a machine translation.
The operator advised customers that if they are unable to purchase a ticket at the ticket office in time, they should proceed directly to the train as a last resort.
