The iPhone 15 features the Dynamic Island, a unique addition integrated into the floating selfie camera bar. This feature utilizes the camera cutout to provide access to live app activities, such as tracking an Uber’s arrival or quickly navigating back to the Maps app. In contrast, the iPhone 16e does not include this function and is equipped with a static notch, similar to the original iPhone X.

Additionally, the iPhone 15 is equipped with the second-generation ultra-wideband (UWB) chip, which enables precise tracking of nearby AirTags. The iPhone 16e lacks this chip, making it capable of tracking AirTags but without the ability to pinpoint their exact proximity.

Overall, these aspects highlight the primary differences between the two models. Notably, the iPhone 16e is set to launch in only 59 countries. Apple has not provided a reason for this limited rollout, but it may be linked to the requirements for certifying the new C1 modem with carriers.

For those considering alternatives, purchasing a used iPhone 15 Pro is a viable option. Available for approximately $600 on platforms such as Swappa, even less when opting for a carrier version, this model includes advanced features such as Apple Intelligence and offers numerous additional functionalities.

The absence of an iPhone priced below $500 is perceived as a significant gap in Apple’s smartphone lineup. However, Maurice Klaehne, a senior research analyst at Counterpoint Research, suggests that this may not significantly impact consumers, especially in the United States. According to Klaehne, about 10 percent of iPhone sales in the US occur through Apple Stores. The majority of consumers purchase subsidized devices from carriers, which often continue to offer older iPhone models, such as the iPhone 14. Moreover, these carriers provide enticing promotions for newer models. It’s important to note the limitations of subsidized phones, as they are typically locked to specific networks. For greater flexibility, unlocked phones are recommended, allowing consumers to switch carriers freely.
