Eric Cox, Dropbox’s Chief Customer Officer, is set to leave his position, as indicated in a document submitted to the SEC on Friday. Cox will continue in his current role for an unspecified duration to assist with the transition, after which he will serve as a “non-executive” employee until mid-August.
Dropbox has not yet provided a comment regarding this development.
Cox joined Dropbox in November 2023, after serving as the COO at Vimeo, where he managed sales, customer success, data, strategy, and operations. His previous experience includes a 19-year tenure at Adobe, where he held various positions, such as leading digital media go-to-market sales for the Americas and serving as VP of Digital Media for Business.
Dropbox, in a blog post announcing Cox’s hiring, acknowledged, “Eric’s extensive SaaS and B2B experience, deep industry expertise, and passion for our customers will be invaluable as we bring our new products to market and usher in our next phase of growth.”
The company has recently faced challenges. Despite surpassing Wall Street estimates in the most recent fiscal quarter, Dropbox experienced a slowdown in revenue growth, and its guidance for the current quarter was below expectations. The company’s stock has decreased by approximately 8% year-to-date.
In an effort to reverse its fortunes, Dropbox announced last October the layoff of 20% of its workforce, equivalent to around 528 employees.
In its bid to boost revenue, Dropbox is increasingly investing in AI technologies. The company has recently enhanced its AI-powered smart organization and search tool, Dropbox Dash, with new enterprise-centric features, including data governance controls.
