On Saturday, the FBI released a statement addressing the circulation of misleading videos related to election security. The agency acknowledged awareness of two such videos that falsely claim to involve the FBI; one suggested that the FBI had apprehended groups linked to ballot fraud, while another concerned Kamala Harris’ husband. Both videos were identified as containing false information, according to the FBI.

The spread of disinformation, especially in the form of political deepfakes and misleading content, poses significant concern as the US presidential election approaches. The FBI emphasized in a statement on X that maintaining election integrity remains a top priority. The agency is collaborating with state and local law enforcement to address election-related threats and safeguard communities as citizens participate in voting. Efforts to mislead the public with fraudulent content about FBI activities, the Bureau stated, undermine democratic processes and aim to diminish trust in the electoral system.

The day before, the FBI, in conjunction with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), reported tracing two other videos to “Russian influence actors.” One particular video falsely portrayed individuals claiming to be from Haiti and voting unlawfully in several counties in Georgia.
