Ferrari’s new F80 hypercar includes a feature that enables the vehicle to record the track it is driving on and provide a boost to the driver at optimal moments during the next lap. This “Boost Optimization” feature analyzes the straights and curves of the circuit and, without the need for additional driver input, increases power to its hybrid system to help achieve the fastest lap times possible.

The Boost Optimization can be utilized in two modes: “Performance” mode allows for a consistent supply of electric power throughout the drive, while “Qualify” mode maximizes boost power at key moments, albeit at the expense of rapid battery depletion. Unlike Ferrari’s SF90 Stradale and 296 GTB, the F80 lacks a full-electric driving mode.

The F80 is equipped with a 4WD powertrain, featuring a rear V6 engine capable of producing 900 horsepower. Together with its three electric motors, the car achieves a total power output of 1200 horsepower. According to Ferrari, this configuration makes the F80 the “most powerful road car ever” produced by the company. The electric motors, the first to be entirely developed and manufactured by Ferrari, are inspired by the design of the MGU-K motor found in Formula 1 vehicles.

The vehicle’s front axle houses two electric motors, an inverter, and an integrated cooling system, facilitating torque vectoring and reducing overall weight. A DC-to-DC converter provides 800, 48, and 12 volts, eliminating the need for a separate 48-volt battery to power the F80’s active suspension and e-turbo systems.

Additionally, the F80 features a “digital twin” side slip control system and active aerodynamic components that enhance downforce while cornering, ensuring optimal balance.

Ferrari will limit production of the F80 to 799 units, each priced at over $3 million. According to Road & Track, these vehicles have already been allocated to existing Ferrari customers.
