The release of “Mickey 17” has been postponed until the next year, but a first glimpse of the film is now available. The initial trailer for the sci-fi movie, directed by Bong Joon-ho, acclaimed for “Parasite,” and starring Robert Pattinson as Mickey Barnes, premiered on Tuesday evening. According to the trailer’s description, Barnes is faced with an unusual situation of working for an employer that expects the ultimate sacrifice: dying for the job.
The film is an adaptation of the novel “Mickey 7” by Edward Ashton, which centers on a “disposable employee” involved in a human expedition to colonize the icy world of Niflheim. The book follows the seventh incarnation of Mickey, though the movie depicts the character dying multiple times. Alongside Pattinson, the cast includes Steven Yeun, Naomi Ackie, Toni Collette, Mark Ruffalo, and Thomas Turgoose.
“Mickey 17” marks Bong Joon-ho’s first project since his 2019 film “Parasite” and is scheduled for a theatrical release on January 31, 2025.
