The first American-manufactured Polestar electric vehicles have been delivered to customers. On Friday, the Swedish automotive company announced it had handed over the initial Polestar 3 SUVs to customers in the United States and Canada. The initiative was influenced by the Inflation Reduction Act, signed by President Biden in 2022, which encourages the production of electric vehicles in the U.S. by providing tax incentives to manufacturers and purchasers.
Polestar commenced production of the Polestar 3 in the U.S. in August at their Ridgeville, South Carolina facility. These vehicles are intended for distribution in the North American and European markets, supplementing the company’s existing production operations in Chengdu, China.
The company anticipates an increase in American and Canadian deliveries of the Polestar 3 in the coming weeks. Those interested in experiencing a Polestar 3 can visit one of the automaker’s Polestar Spaces, which are sophisticated showrooms located in or near major U.S. cities.
The Polestar 3 represents the company’s effort to broaden its customer base by appealing to a wider audience, compared to its previous niche models. According to Tim Stevens from Engadget, who tested the vehicle last month, the Polestar 3, priced at $73,400 and above, is impressive despite experiencing some initial software issues.
