Ford began providing free adapters for Tesla’s Supercharger network to its electric vehicle (EV) owners in February. However, a recent report by InsideEVs indicates that the company has advised some customers to discontinue using these adapters. Ford discovered a “potential issue” that may result in “reduced charging speeds over time” or potentially cause damage to the charge port. This information was communicated through a service bulletin dispatched to those affected.
Owners of Ford EVs are urged to verify the accuracy of their address through the notice provided by Ford. If the address is correct, no further action is required for receiving the replacement. However, if the address needs updating, customers are advised to make necessary changes by October 24th.
Ford plans to provide replacement adapters within the next few weeks, along with instructions for returning the existing adapters, both offered at no additional cost. The company emphasizes the importance of returning all affected adapters to minimize the risk of vehicle damage.
The distribution of replacement adapters is expected to commence in the week of October 28th. According to InsideEVs, only “a certain recent batch” of Ford’s North American Charging Standard adapters is affected. In contrast, Rivian and General Motors have reported that they have not encountered similar issues with their adapters.
