Overwatch 2 developers have decided to bring back the classic mode of Control, which hasn’t received much attention since the game’s launch. To revitalize the mode, a new Control map called Samoa is being introduced in Season 7. This map stands out from the game’s other locations with its tropical backdrop and vibrant colors. Samoa consists of three diverse maps, each with unique gameplay styles and settings.

The decision to focus on new multiplayer maps and balance updates led to a shift of resources away from a full PvE campaign in Overwatch 2. Despite some mixed reception for the new Push and Flashpoint modes, many players still prefer the classic modes carried over from the first game. With the addition of the Samoa map, developers are showing their commitment to providing content for both PvE and PvP players.

The Samoa map features three points: Beach, Downtown, and Volcano. Each point offers different environments and challenges for players. Beach provides cover with small villas and huts, while Downtown funnels players through packed streets into a wide-open point with a tower in the middle. Volcano, the final point, has an open layout and a lava pit, exciting Lucio players who can push enemies into the fiery depths. This diverse map selection encourages players to adapt their strategies between rounds. The Samoa map will be available starting from October 10, coinciding with Season 7. Additionally, there are speculations that Samoa is a precursor to the introduction of the hero Mauga in Season 8.
