To conclude Sony’s State of Play presentation, Sucker Punch Studios revealed the next installment in its renowned Ghosts series, titled Ghost of Yotei. This upcoming game introduces a new female protagonist, Atsu, who utilizes both a shamisen and a traditional samurai sword. According to the trailer, Atsu will explore the wilderness surrounding Mount Yotei, accompanied by a mysterious wolf companion.
Sucker Punch Studios, known for developing the Sly Cooper and Infamous series, released Ghost of Tsushima in 2020. The game received acclaim for its contemplative moments as well as its Akira Kurosawa-inspired samurai action. Earlier this year, Sucker Punch released a PC port of Tsushima and confirmed that a film adaptation is in progress, with John Wick director Chad Stahelski set to helm the project.
In a blog post announcing Ghost of Yotei, Sony indicated that this title is Sucker Punch’s first game developed specifically for the PlayStation 5. The developers promise that Ghost of Yotei will feature the same kind of beautiful observation moments as its predecessor while incorporating new features.
Andrew Goldfarb, communications manager at Sucker Punch, highlighted the game’s technical advancements, stating, "We have massive sightlines that let you look far across the environment, whole new skies featuring twinkling stars and auroras, even more believable movement from wind on grass and vegetation. Our new setting also gives us the opportunity to introduce new mechanics, gameplay improvements, and even new weapons."
Sony has not specified an exact release date for Ghost of Yotei, only mentioning a 2025 release window.
