Google Japan has created a unique and portable keyboard called the GCAPS. Resembling a ballcap, this device features a single switch inside that can be activated by spinning the hat left and right until the desired character is reached. The rotation is detected by a gyroscope, and the key codes are sent via Bluetooth when the top of the hat is pressed down. The GCAPS utilizes an M5Stick C Plus and a micro switch to achieve its functionality. Like other unconventional keyboards such as the teaboard and the long boi keyboards, the GCAPS is open source.
While the GCAPS is designed to type in Japanese, it is unclear whether it types in all caps. However, considering the object it represents, it is amusing to imagine that it would. The GCAPS is a playful and innovative creation that showcases Google Japan’s commitment to celebrating the 101-key keyboard in unique ways.
