Google Wallet users now have the option to disable the whimsical Pay animation that appears after completing a payment. A new setting called “Success animations” can be toggled on or off in the Google Wallet settings. This feature, which is seasonal in nature, displays fun animations above the payment card. However, users now have the choice to disable it and only see the checkmark and “G Pay” logo. The new setting aims to provide users with a more streamlined payment experience.
In addition to the disable animation feature, Google Wallet is also introducing a new functionality where users can add a “Photo” pass by snapping the barcode or QR code. This feature will allow users to create a pass using a photo that contains a barcode or QR code. Currently, this feature is only available for some users on devices such as the Pixel 8 Pro. The ability to add a photo pass adds to the range of options available on Google Wallet, which already includes payment cards, transit passes, loyalty cards, gift cards, and ID cards.
Furthermore, the “Google Wallet” app available on the Play Store has adopted a new versioning system. The app, which provides a homescreen icon for easy access, now follows a versioning system similar to Google Play services. The updated version numbers serve to distinguish the app from its previous iteration. Apart from these updates, there have also been miscellaneous changes to the Wallet UI, with a more compact design being rolled out widely on devices such as the Pixel 8, 8 Pro, and Fold, and support for the ID Card option being recently added to the Fold.
