Google is set to launch its new range of Pixel smartphones and peripherals this week. The Pixel 8 Pro is expected to make a big impact in the Android smartphone market with its impressive features, including AI-driven camera tools. Google wants to create a “damn fine smartphone” that stands out from the competition and provides users with a seamless experience. In promotional videos leaked by @MysteryLupin, Google highlights the ease of switching to a Pixel and showcases the wide range of camera features powered by Google AI.

The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have made an appearance on benchmarking site Geekbench, revealing impressive scores for their Tensor G3 chipsets. While the scores are slightly lower than other flagship models like the Galaxy S23 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the focus of the Tensor chips is on providing efficient AI capabilities on the device itself. Google has moved away from using Qualcomm Snapdragon chips to its own Tensor design to support computational routines for AI and Machine Learning. This signals Google’s belief in the importance of developing AI capabilities in hardware.

The upcoming Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will also be the first devices to launch with Android 14 out of the box. Android 14 offers extended support windows of up to seven years, providing users with long-term software updates and security fixes. This is a major selling point for consumers who want a phone with a longer lifespan and security. Google aims to offer consistency in its Material UI design across its devices and encourage third-party app developers to create apps that integrate well with Pixel phones. The overall goal is to solidify Google’s view of mobility in the Android ecosystem and provide a consumer-focused, long-term value.
