Google has discreetly announced the pricing for Veo 2, its AI model for video generation that was unveiled in December. As outlined on the company’s pricing page, the cost for using Veo 2 is set at 50 cents per second of video output, resulting in $30 per minute or $1,800 per hour. Jon Barron, a researcher at Google DeepMind, compared this cost to that of the Marvel movie “Avengers: Endgame,” which reportedly had a production budget of $356 million, equivalent to approximately $32,000 per second.
It is important to note that customers may not necessarily utilize every second of video produced by Veo 2 that they pay for. Additionally, Veo 2 is not expected to generate feature-length films akin to “Avengers” epics at this time, as Google’s announcement emphasized Veo 2’s capacity to produce clips lasting two minutes or more.
For further pricing context, OpenAI recently introduced its Sora video generation model, which is accessible to subscribers who pay $200 a month for a ChatGPT Pro membership.
