According to a leaked retail unboxing video, key specifications of the Tensor G3, the chip powering the upcoming Google Pixel 8 Pro, have been revealed. The leak shows that the Tensor G3 is built on a 4 nm process and features a 1+4+4 layout, which is different from the 2+2+4 layout seen in previous generations. The big core of the Tensor G3 is a Cortex-X3 clocked at 2.91 GHz, while the middle cores are four Cortex-A715 clocked at 2.37 GHz, offering performance comparable to the Cortex-X1. The chip also includes four Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 1.7 GHz, an upgrade from Google’s previous use of Cortex-A55. The GPU is labeled as “Mali-G715,” with rumors suggesting it supports hardware-based ray tracing.

It is worth noting that the leaked specifications should be taken with caution, as apps sometimes misinterpret the information. The leaked screenshots also hint at the presence of a “Goodix” fingerprint sensor. Google has traditionally focused on highlighting the software and AI capabilities of its chips rather than providing detailed specifications, so it remains to be seen how much information will be disclosed about the Tensor G3 at the launch event and afterward.

In the future, Google is expected to switch to TSMC for the Tensor G5, which could potentially lead to a change in the company’s approach to sharing chip specifications. This leak provides an early glimpse into the capabilities of the Tensor G3, but fans and tech enthusiasts will have to wait for the official announcement to get a complete understanding of the chip’s features.
